Privacy policy
Last updated: 14 October 2026
Jacteur is a desktop application. It runs on your computer and talks directly to the services you connect it to. We do not operate a server that receives your voice, your text, or anything from your Google Account.
Who we are
“Jacteur”, “we” and “us” refer to the publisher of the Jacteur application and of the website jacteur.com. For any question about this policy or about your data, write to contact@jacteur.com.
What Jacteur handles, at a glance
| Data | Why | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Your voice, while you hold the dictation shortcut | To turn it into text | From your computer to OpenAI, then discarded by Jacteur |
| The transcribed text | To clean it up and type it where your cursor is | From your computer to OpenAI, then into the application you are using |
| The name of the application in focus | To adapt the tone of the text | From your computer to OpenAI, with the text |
| Your custom vocabulary (the terms you enter) | So that those words are spelled correctly | The configuration file on your computer, and OpenAI with each dictation |
| Your settings and the access keys of the services you connect | To make the app work | A configuration file on your computer |
| Google authorization tokens | To create the events and tasks you dictate | The same file on your computer, and Google |
Dictation
Jacteur only listens while you hold the dictation shortcut, or while hands-free mode is on because you turned it on. The audio is filtered on your computer to remove silence, then sent over an encrypted connection to OpenAI, which transcribes it and corrects the text. Jacteur currently works with your own OpenAI API key, so these requests are made under your OpenAI account and are subject to OpenAI's policies.
Jacteur does not keep recordings, and it does not keep a history of what you dictate. Once the text has been typed into your application, Jacteur holds nothing but the last result shown in its window.
Data from your Google Account
Connecting a Google Account is optional. It is only needed if you want to add events to Google Calendar or tasks to Google Tasks by voice.
What Jacteur accesses
When you connect your account, Google asks you to grant Jacteur two permissions:
-
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.events, used to create an event in your primary calendar; -
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/tasks, used to create a task in your default task list.
These permissions technically allow more than that. Jacteur only sends creation requests. It does not read, list, edit or delete your existing events, calendars, tasks or task lists, and it does not access your email address, your contacts or any other Google service.
How Jacteur uses it
When you dictate something like “add a dentist appointment on Friday at 3 pm”, Jacteur works out a title, a date and an optional description from your sentence, then sends them to the Google Calendar API or the Google Tasks API to create the item. Google replies with a confirmation, which Jacteur uses to tell you whether it worked and does not keep. That is the only use made of the access.
The title, date and description come from what you said. Like any dictation, that sentence is transcribed by OpenAI before the event is created. Nothing that comes back from your Google Account is sent to OpenAI or to anyone else.
How it is stored and protected
Google gives Jacteur an access token and a refresh token. Both are saved in Jacteur's configuration file, inside your user profile on your own computer, and are protected by the permissions of your operating system account. They are sent only to Google, over HTTPS, to authenticate requests and to renew the access token. They are never sent to us: we have no server that could receive them. The sign-in itself happens in your browser, on Google's pages, and Jacteur never sees your Google password.
Who it is shared with
Nobody. We do not sell, transfer or disclose data from your Google Account. We do not use it for advertising, and we do not use it to develop, improve or train artificial intelligence or machine learning models. No human at Jacteur can read it, because it never leaves your computer except to go to Google.
Jacteur's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
How long it is kept, and how to delete it
The tokens stay on your computer until you remove them. You can do that in three ways:
- in Jacteur, open Settings (“Paramètres”), then “Intégrations”, and choose “Se déconnecter” (Disconnect) next to Google: the tokens are erased from the configuration file immediately;
- in your Google Account, open Third-party apps and services and remove Jacteur's access: the tokens stop working;
- uninstall Jacteur and delete its configuration folder.
Events and tasks that Jacteur created belong to you and stay in your Google Account. You delete them in Google Calendar and Google Tasks.
Other services you can connect
Jacteur can also create tasks in Todoist and events in a CalDAV calendar. The API token or the credentials you enter are saved in the same configuration file on your computer and are sent only to the service concerned. Removing them in the settings erases them.
Where the configuration file is
- Linux:
~/.config/com.jacteur.app/ - macOS:
~/Library/Application Support/com.jacteur.app/ - Windows:
%APPDATA%\com.jacteur.app\
Deleting this folder removes everything Jacteur has stored.
The website jacteur.com
This website sets no cookies and uses no analytics or advertising tracker. Fonts and scripts are served from jacteur.com itself. Like any web server, our hosting provider records technical logs (IP address, date, page requested) for security and troubleshooting.
If you email us, we use your address and your message to reply to you, and for nothing else.
Your rights
Under the General Data Protection Regulation you have the right to access, correct, delete and object to the processing of your personal data, and to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority, in France the CNIL. Because Jacteur keeps your data on your own computer, most of these rights are exercised directly in the app. For anything else, write to contact@jacteur.com.
Children
Jacteur is not intended for children under 15, and we do not knowingly collect data about them.
Changes to this policy
If Jacteur starts handling data differently, in particular data from your Google Account, this page will be updated before the change takes effect, with a new date at the top, and the app will ask for your agreement again where that is required.
