Jacteur

Jacteur is a voice dictation app for Linux, macOS and Windows. You talk the way it comes out, and it writes what you meant, in whichever application your cursor is in.

What Jacteur writes: I'll send you the invoice Friday morning.

Free to start. Hold Ctrl + Shift + Space, talk, release.

What you say, what gets written

Jacteur transcribes your voice, then cleans it up the way someone who understood you would. The text lands straight in your mail client, your editor or your browser, in English and in French.

Hesitations are gone

The “um”, the “you know”, the repeated words. Punctuation and capitals are set for you.

Okay so let's meet um outside the station like around six pm

Let's meet outside the station around 6 pm.

You can change your mind mid-sentence

When you correct yourself out loud, only the final version is written.

The budget is twelve thousand, no sorry, fifteen thousand euros

The budget is €15,000.

The tone follows the app

Jacteur checks where you are typing: polished in an email, relaxed in a chat, exact in a code editor.

Tell her Thursday works

Hi Claire, Thursday works for me. Best regards.

Rewrite text with your voice

Select a passage, hold Ctrl + Shift + E and say what you want done with it.

Make this shorter and translate it into French

The selected text is replaced with the new version.

An event or a task, added by voice

Say “add a dentist appointment on Friday at 3 pm” or “add a task: call the plumber back”. Jacteur creates the event in Google Calendar or the task in Google Tasks. Todoist and CalDAV calendars are supported too.

Why Jacteur asks for access to your Google Account

This feature is optional. If you turn it on in the settings, Google asks you to allow Jacteur to manage events on your calendars and your tasks. Jacteur uses that permission for one purpose only: creating the event or the task you have just dictated.

Google Calendar
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.events, to create an event in your primary calendar.
Google Tasks
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/tasks, to create a task in your default list.

What Jacteur does with that access

  • It creates the events and tasks you dictate, and nothing else.
  • The authorization stays stored on your computer. Jacteur has no server that receives it.
  • You can withdraw it at any time, from Jacteur's settings or from your Google Account.

What it does not do

  • It does not read, edit or delete your existing events and tasks.
  • It does not pass any data from your Google Account to third parties, whether for advertising or to train AI models.
